Stroop Dash — Stroop Test Game

HOW TO PLAY

  1. Press Start — or the spacebar — to begin a 30-second round.
  2. A color word appears, but it's painted in a different ink color.
  3. Tap the swatch matching the INK color — not what the word says.
  4. Each correct match is +1. A wrong tap costs you 2 seconds.

TIPS & STRATEGY

  • Tap the COLOR the letters are painted in, never the word being spelled — about three out of four rounds deliberately mismatch the two to trip you up.
  • Try to defocus from reading: let your eyes take in the ink color as a whole instead of sounding out the word, which is what slows most people down.
  • A wrong tap silently burns 2 seconds off your clock, so on a tough round it's faster to pause a beat than to slap an answer and lose time.
  • Roughly one round in four has the word and ink matching — those are free points, so don't overthink them and second-guess yourself into a wrong tap.

ABOUT

Stroop Dash is built on the classic Stroop effect: when a word like "BLUE" is printed in red ink, your brain wants to read the word instead of naming the color. Fighting that automatic urge trains focus and inhibitory control. Your best score is saved on your device, and the top scores make the global TOP 20 leaderboard.

FAQ

How do you play Stroop Dash?
A color word appears painted in some ink color, and you tap the swatch matching the ink color — not what the word says. You get 30 seconds and score +1 for each correct tap.
What makes Stroop Dash so confusing?
It's built on the classic Stroop effect: when the word 'BLUE' is printed in red ink, your brain automatically wants to read the word instead of naming the color. Overriding that reflex under time pressure is what makes it a genuine Stroop Test Game.
How does scoring work and when does a round end?
Each correct tap is +1 point and your score is the number you get right, while a wrong tap costs 2 seconds. The round ends when the 30-second timer runs out.
Does a wrong answer end the game?
No — a wrong tap doesn't end the round, it just subtracts 2 seconds from your remaining time and flashes red. You keep going until the clock hits zero.
Is Stroop Dash free to play?
Yes, it's completely free and runs right in your browser with no install and no signup. Your best score is saved on your device.
